Road trip to Santa Barbara

Ryan's friend Suzanne warned us that overnighters with a baby may not be as fun as we'd like to believe. Bodhi's first night away from his crib actually turned into an all-nighter overnighter. We left Thursday night at 6pm, which is just a bit earlier than his regular bed time. Our hope was that he would sleep right through the 4-hour car trip. Things were going well, but only 1.5-2 hours at a time... then once we got to the hotel he was really resisting going to sleep in a new place. He was up every two hours through the night wanting to nurse, and was fussy about getting back to sleep. The following night was a lot better, the three of us shared a king bed and it was cute at night when he'd wake up he'd turn his head to the right to see daddy and left to see mama. He did this several times before deciding everything was in place to fall asleep.

We spent Friday walking around State Street in Downtown SB, I hadn't been there or on campus at UCSB since I graduated in 1999. Ten years!! Omi Cathy and Aunt Cindy and I walked around with Bodhi doing some shopping and eating. Ryan worked a bit at the SB office and met us for a great lunch at Palazzio. The forecast was for a stormy day but it ended up just gorgeous. Later that day Ryan and I were able to take a run together (the first one together since I got pregnant!!) which was so great. We ended up taking a tour of SB, getting lost, then ending up in the exact right spot to find the hotel. Saturday we had a great breakfast outside, practically on the water. We were able to catch the O'Flynns before heading out to soccer practice and see Caitlyn and Alex, they are so adorable!! Before hitting the road we were able to hang out in Isla Vista (college town next to UCSB) where Ryan and I both lived for 4 years during college. We visited the old co-op houses I used to live in and took some great pictures. I never really thought about the fact I'd show up 10 years after graduation with a baby and a husband after those wild years in IV!!
There was an Earth Day celebration at the park in IV, and I had Ryan take Bodhi down to the drum circle since he's taken a music class and is a budding musician. Right as they sat down, someone gave them a tambourine and a baby bongo. What fun!! As you can see, he was feeling the beat! I also found some local organic Santa Barbara strawberries at the food co-op and let Bodhi have a nibble. He loved them and was really upset with me when I took them away... Here's a fun video!
