Bodhi needs a fake ID

We tried to take Bodhi to happy hour at The Waterfront a couple weeks ago to say farewell to our friend Laurel who is off to Ecuador with her husband Daniel for a 2 year Peace Corps stint. We packed Bodhi up in the car and drove over to Little Italy. He fell asleep on the drive over so we had to wake him up and put him in the Baby Bjorn. He wasn't too happy about being awakened. Then, to make matters worse, they wouldn't let him in the bar because he's not 21!! We told him he was well over 21 days old, but that didn't fly. Laurel came out to the street to say hello and goodbye. Here are some photos of Bodhi getting rejected from a bar for the first time. He wasn't too happy about it!!

Celebrating 12 months of Bodhi! (including 39 weeks in utero)

At risk of divulging TMI, today is the very day that Bodhi was conceived one year ago! I can certainly say it was the day that changed our lives forever. We celebrated by enjoying the 82 degree weather outside (instead of the indoor activities a year ago =). Yes, it's just unbelievably beautiful here in North PB! Here is a pic of the sunrise from our back deck. There have also been a few milestones today. Bodhi slept for the longest stretch ever... 8pm to 6:30am. (Too bad Mom has been up since 4am checking on him!) He was really nap-resistant yesterday and we went over to the Vargas' house for dinner where he hung out with Lucinda so he was very tired last night. Not sure if this is just a one-time deal but I hope it sticks! Also Bodhi rolled over again and I think it's a legitimate, on-purpose roll this time.

To top it all off, Bodhi is now sitting in the big boy part of the stroller now!
As many with many of our walks, they end with the sweet sight of a sleeping baby, which is always a good thing!

Slap some soy sauce on those rolllls!

You'll have to indulge me a for a moment. I've been taking some pictures that I'm sure will embarrass Bodhi when he brings home his first girlfriend. He's been sporting some rolls on his legs that are unbelievably adorable! (Unlike the pregnancy weight rolls mama has.) Ryan told me over the weekend that Bodhi rolled over. He did it twice yesterday during tummy time. He goes from on his stomach to on his back. Not sure if he is just succombing to momentum and gravity or if he really means to roll over. He has been working on his neck and back strength a lot and when I try to put him down in the bouncy chair he straightens his back in protest. He works his legs a lot and I have a feeling he will be crawling soon...

He has taken a liking to finding himself in the mirror. If he's ever fussy or being particular, we can always get a smile out of him by walking in the bathroom and looking for the cute baby in the mirror.

For Daddy's birthday we went and met him for lunch and showed him off at the office. We have a feeling Bodhi's going to be independently wealthy because he doesn't seem to enjoy the office much. But he loves his daddy!

We went to Ryan's favorite restaurant for dinner on his bday where he enjoyed Sapporo and sushi...catepillar roll, spicy tuna roll, volcano roll, but none as enjoyable as Bodhi's rolls!!

Bodhi's goals for 2009

It's been a busy 3 months so far for Bodhi, but he has some grand goals for 2009 including:

- crawling
- walking
- talking
- and growing teeth

We talked about making potty training a goal for 2009, but we decided to save that one for 2010.

Hope your 2009 goals are as lofty as Bodhi's!

Bodhi at 3 months!

Guess who is excited to be three months old? And getting cuter every day!!
Bodhi's new pastime is trying to fit the entirety of his fist into his mouth. He has also taken up drooling and blowing bubbles... are big pearly whites on their way?

Bodhi's first Christmas and New Years 2009!

Here's the play by play of Bodhi's first Christmas!

We had dinner over at Ba and Ong Ngoai's (CJ's parents) house. Mark played the guitar for a captivated Bodhi...he's already planning on toddler guitar lessons. We didn't get to see Uncle Nic this time around, but did get to see him at Thanksgiving, thankfully.

<----- On the airplane

At just less than 3 months old, I was a bit nervous about taking Bodhi on the plane trip to Sacramento. It's only about an hour and 20 minutes, and there was no way we were going to do the 8 hour drive each way, so we ventured the craziness of airports at christmas time and the cattle yard known as a Southwest airplane. We were counting on the flight time being just around his sleepy time, which was one of the tips we got from other parents. Besides our flight being delayed Bodhi was fantastic. He did have the best seat in the house, sprawled across mama and daddy's laps. He chewed on the pacifier at all the right times to equalize his ears.

We went over to Bodhi's Great-Grandmother Simmons' house on Christmas morning. After trying to accomodate his morning naps and the late night getting in to Sac, the anticipation of Bodhi's arrival was great! Within a minute or so of entering, Bodhi was swept into the arms of relatives and mama and daddy were nowhere to be found.

We were able to spend a lot of time with the Simmons side of the family, and even convinced Great-Grandma Simmons into taking a picture (not an easy feat). 4 generations!

We were also lucky enough to have Aunt Patricia (Bodhi's paternal Great-Grandmother's sister) and Cousin Kathy come over to Grandpa Bob's house to meet Bodhi.

Aunt Gail came over with a few of our other friends and took some great pictures, as she always does!

This is one of my favorites, with Erin and Joaquin.

Bodhi was enthralled by all the fun things to look at in Grandma Linda's house. I was asked to omit pictures of her on the blog, so I'll just post a picture of the most amazing salad I had in 2008. It's not an easy feat to satisfy a discriminating vegetarian critic. A wonderful Christmas present! Thanks Linda!

Today is New Years Day 2009, which also happens to be my 32nd birthday. I can't remember the last time I didn't stay up past midnight on New Year's Eve... especially since it's a count down to my birthday. Well last night all three of us were asleep by 8:30 pm. Bodhi woke me up for a feeding at 12:30am last night (he usually wakes at 3am) as if he wanted to make sure he was the first person to wish me a happy 2009. (Daddy was fast asleep and does not remember any of this happening.) Last year at this time, I had no idea I'd be so blessed to have this little boy in my life and he reminds me of how lucky I am everyday. (And every morning at 3am.) I also have been reminded what an amazing partner Ryan is and am so happy to have him to love. This was a much quieter birthday than any in recent memory, but the one I can honestly say I've felt the most loved. Cheers to love and happiness in 2009!
